Floral Algorithm 2024
This series of paintings delves into the delicate intersection between the natural world and the technological advancements that both sustain and challenge the iconic flower industry of the Netherlands—a central focus in my work. Through abstract forms and layered textures, I evoke a landscape where the vibrant beauty of flowers is juxtaposed with the intricate, often subtle forces of climate change and digital innovation. Bright, almost artificial hues reflect the dual influence of environmental shifts and the growing role of algorithms in shaping the future of these blooms.
This fusion of organic and synthetic elements captures my exploration of how climate change and data-driven technologies are reshaping the Netherlands' renowned flower industry—from the shifting rhythms of blooming seasons to the complex, data-informed strategies used to combat pests and diseases. The interplay of light and shadow within these pieces symbolizes the duality of technology and nature—how innovations can both nurture and challenge the delicate balance of the natural world.
Through this work, I investigate the ongoing dialogue between preserving the vibrant, tangible beauty of Dutch flowers and adapting to the evolving climate and technological landscape. Each piece reflects the "Floral Algorithm"—a conceptual blend where the organic and the digital coexist, creating a new narrative for the future of nature.
